Do you like cats? Do you wish to be surrounded by cute graphics and the constant meowing of kittens? Then Cat-A-Pult might be just for you! Cat-A-Pult is a casual game developed by Tivola. It is free to play and available for download in the app store.
The goal of the game is throw 8-bit cats on a platform and stack them as high as possible. If a cat falls off the platform or the tower of kittens topples over, you lose and the game starts again.
Simple enough right? Wrong!
This game is so hard that you won’t believe it until you try it out for yourself. Behind all the 8-bit cuteness lies a truly challenging game, one that will make you tear your hair out one strand at a time. The controls are simple: you press down the cat and position it in the direction you want to shoot it, then select how much strength you want to use by moving your fingers back and forth, much like a slingshot. If you think that purpose of the game doesn’t match your play style, you can go full savage and shoot the cats out of the frame.
The game keeps track of how many cats you stacked in the top right corner of the screen, although this wasn’t a problem for me because I can easily count to three. It also registers your success (or failure) in the form of a high score on the end screen, which you can look at every time you die.
my high score
my brother’s high score
The full immersion of the game is made complete by the soundtrack. All I can say is, it matches the gameplay perfectly. The happy meowing of cats makes you wonder if they are mocking you, while laughing at your failure in their secret cat tongue. Nah, I’m sure they are just playfully teasing you.
After I received my fair share of catapocalypse I decided to ask my brother to describe his experience playing the game.
“It is truly the best game ever made. It brings casual gaming to a whole new level. Before Cat-A-Pult I have never known what having fun was like. Thanks to Cat-A-Pult I’m a new man.”
So, there you have it. Best game ever made.
- If you ignore your cat and let it stand still, it will jump impatiently up in the air after a few seconds.
- If you shoot your cat straight up and it lands on the same platform you can shoot the same cat again.
