Verizon Post Bragging about NFC Backfires, Gets Hijacked

On Verizon posted on Google+ Wednesday, extolling the virtues of NFC and all the possibilities it could bring. Well Verizon apparently forgot that Google+ is primarily used by tech enthusiasts and people who are generally well aware of the goings on in the technology world. Those are the same people that really, REALLY want Google Wallet on their Verizon smartphones. And they let them know it.
As of this writing, there were nearly 200 comments on their post about NFC and 95 percent of them expressed their unhappiness that Verizon blocked Google Wallet while simultaneously allowing the Verizon-backed ISIS mobile payment option to use NFC.

I have to say that I concur with the nerdrage that is being directed at Verizon. They have been blatantly hypocritical in blocking Google Wallet. The only reason given for blocking Google Wallet has been because it accesses a ‘secure element’. Lo and behold, the Verizon backed ISIS mobile payment system accesses the same ‘secure element’

Verizon is a behemouth and they have the weight to do whatever they want. As long as they can maintain the duopoly they have with AT&T the may be able to avoid anti-trust investigations. This means they can continue to be the big bully in the room for the foreseeable future.
