Windows phone is very appealing to first time smartphone buyers.

Forbes.com is reporting that Windows Phone’s market share grew to 5.6 percent from 3.7 percent a year ago. This is impressive growth considering that 66 percent growth. Where is the growth coming from? Smartphone stragglers.

Citing research from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, (that’s a mouthful of a name), Forbes reports that the Windows Phone operating system appeals to first time Smartphone buyers more than Apple’s iOS. This is not surprising as Windows Phone is the most minimalist major mobile operating system. It also has the most aesthetically pleasing operating system currently on the market. Bottom line, it is super easy to use and very hip looking.

So should iOS and Android be worried? Probably not yet. They should keep a close eye on it however as the Windows Phone growth curve is beginning to look like a hocky stick. Blackberry on the other hand better be sweating bullets over this news. Despite still having holdouts in the enterprise sector, consumers will ultimately determine the winner.
