iPhone Shipping Slips to 3-4 Weeks, Media Freaks Out

Apple hits another jackpot once again with the iPhone 5

Title says it all. A quick search of my RSS feeds revealed no less than 5 of the major tech blogs had stories about the fact that if you order an iPhone 5 right now, you’ll have to wait 3-4 weeks to receive your shiny new phone.

It looks like Apple has hit the jackpot with their latest device. While many people are disappointed with the iPhone 5, most people aren’t disappointed enough to not buy one.  Apple expects to sell upwards of 6 million of these babies in it’s first week of availability.

Other phone makers aren’t taking this laying down. Samsung has released a bevy of new ads including a provocative television ad that is sure to get the Cult of Cupertino in a tizzy. Nokia is strangely getting in on the action and making disturbingly similar advertisements to Samsung. You can see it on Nokia’s Facebook page.

Now you can expect history to repeat itself for the fifth time and see people waiting in line for hours hoping that they just might get their hands on a new iPhone 5. Expect to see your local news covering the craziness on Friday. Why? Because it’s an iPhone.

I expect that much of the immidiate success of the iPhone 5 are late adopters getting their first smartphone and people that are just finishing their two-year contracts with old Android hardware. Frankly, if I wasn’t a tech person, the Android from back then would have turned me off to Android as well. It was clunky and not intuitive for regular folks. Ice Cream Sandwich and Jellybean have much improved that system.

In short, the iPhone 5 is selling very well and fan boys on both sides are once again in pitched battles over the Android vs iOS.

What side are you on?
