The National Journal reports that outgoing FCC Chair Julius Genachowski is glad that the potential merger between AT&T and T-Mobile was blocked.
Genachowski said that the US mobile communication market was on the verge of being a duopoly. Many people thought that the deal was inevitable.
I for one am glad that the merger failed. I would also argue that we still have essentially a duopoly in the United States. The more we can do to break the grip of Verizon and AT&T on the US mobile market the better. Their anti-consumer practices are getting old.
In case you are on AT&T or Verizon, you really should look at switching to a prepaid carrier. I have and I don’t regret it one bit.
