The Curious Expedition, a game by a team so indie I couldn’t find their company- Riad Djemili and Johannes Kristmann, is an early access title. This is a 19th century exploration rogue like, and it is amazing. I will let the images talk for me.
Showing yet again that what’s important for a game is not graphics but a consistent art style, The Curious Expedition impressed me with its mechanics for movement and exploration which felt rewarding, combat that required you to plan your expedition for it, and a system for morale that was challenging without being punishing. The music is perfect for a game such as this, and the explorers are well thought out depictions of important real world figures. The game is difficult and very rewarding. It’s a small game with a huge amount of depth. I heartily recommend it!
